Watercolour Nails

Really easy, and really pretty!

I was inspired by a video by Spektorsnails and did watercolour nail art with a plastic bag. It's incredibly easy and your nails look very special, I think. The only downside to this method is the amount of clean up work that comes with it.

How to do it and what you need:
First, you choose what colours you want to use. I chose a minty green, dark blue and warm gold, because they look really nice together. You will then need a plastic bag to put over your nails. Sandwich bags will do nicely! I cut mine into small pieces, because this was easier to put over my nails.

Then, you paint your nails in a base colour. Mine was mint green. After that, you dab on blobs of nail polish onto your nails.

A trick is to dab on the colour you want to stand out the most, first, so it's a bit under the other colours you'll use - for me, this was gold. This is because the plastic wrap you will put over it (next step) will take away most of the top colour (or that was the case with me anyway). In the pictures at then beginning of this post, you can really see the difference: for the first picture (left hand), I put the gold colour first on my nails, and then the blue and mint green. The gold stands out nicely on my left hand. On my right hand, however, I put gold on as the last colour, and the plastic took away a lot of the colour.

Next step is, after you have dabbed blobs of all the colours onto your nails, to put the plastic bag over your nails. You then have to press on the plastic a bit, to make the nail polish spread out. Be careful not to move the plastic around too much, though, because then you could just get a huge ugly brown mess.
Then you take off the plastic.

Finally, wipe the excess nail polish off of your skin (yes, this technique is messy as hell). Put on a top coat and you're done!

Colours used:
Blue: Only You- 534 Stairway to Heaven
Green: Gosh - 597 Miss Minty
Gold: Sinful Colors - Show and tell

I always find it incredibly helpful to have some sort of video or picture tutorial, so here's a link to Spektornails video.

Acid Wash Nails

Today I tried to do my first acid wash nails with blue and white, and a bit of nail caviar on my index finger:

It's a technique I just found, and it's really simple:

First you paint your nails in a base colour. Mine was blue. Make sure you do a few layers. Then add a few layers of shiny topcoat. Let it dry.

After that, you paint over your nails with a different colour - mine is white. Let it dry completely.
Then you take a cotton ball, soak it in some nail polish remover, and gently start rubbing on your nails to make the top colour come of a bit. You keep doing this until you are satisfied with the result! Finally, add a top coat and you're good to go.

If you don't really get how to do it, here's a tutorial that I found helpful.

I added some nail caviar on my index finger, but these nails would also look really good with some gold or silver studs, I think.

Colours used:

Blue: 534 Stairway to Heaven by Only You (brand in Belgium, sold by Ici Paris XL)
White: from D'Orleac Professional, but the colour doesn't have a name - I tried looking it up but I couldn't find a lot of information on this brand. It's apparently Spanish and not very well known. However, this D'Orleac polish honestly is the BEST white nail polish I ever owned. You just need two layers for full coverage. I used to have an OPI white, but even with five layers that did not completely cover my nails to my satisfaction. So I'm really happy with this one!

The Perfect Red

Hi everyone!

In one of my first posts, I want to tell you a bit about myself, nail polish wise. In particular, I want to introduce you to my all time favourite nail polish: OPI’s Big Apple Red.

I have loved red nail polish for a very long time,
and it still is my go-to shade whenever I’m a bit down and need a colourboost, of when I just don’t have any nail art inspiration.
This Big Apple Red is just the perfect red shade for me - it’s the kind of red that goes with everything, I feel :
p.s.: also check out my Tumblr: rexxx did it.

OPI's Raw Granite

A few weeks ago, I won two new OPI Raw Granite polishes: DS lapis (blue) and DS pewter (grey). I tried out the DS pewter first. It’s a really pretty grey colour. The polish is like the liquid sand polishes: matte, but with a lot of sparkles in it.

I tried on the polish first without a top coat,
but then I wanted to see what it would look like if it were totally shiny, so I added a topcoat. My left hand is with glossy topcoat, my right hand without:

The difference between the two is not shockingly clear, but you can see a difference nonetheless: the colour with topcoat is a bit darker, and of course more shiny! I like this polish the best with a shiny topcoat, mostly because of the richer, deeper colour. To me, it looks a bit like a pretty dark night sky with bright stars in it.
